Tap&Barrel Pub

Tap & Barrel Pub is located at 13 Bolshaya Dmitrovka. From the early 60’s to the mid 90’s, this address housed the legendary (if not to say infamous) bar Lad’ya (“The Rowboat”), unofficially known to everyone as Yama (“The Pit”), which sometimes had the reputation of a wild place. The Pit became the first bar in the USSR equipped with automated beer dispensers.

Reportedly, The Pit was also chosen for shooting the scene in the Soviet cult classic “Watch Out For The Automobile”, in which the protagonist, a Soviet version of modern Robin Hood, was listening to the emotional rhetoric of the unsuspecting detective investigating a series of car thefts. While the veracity of those rumors has been disputed many times, we know for a fact that the door through which both characters walked out staggering in the most unequivocal way into Stoleshnikov Lane after the scene, was indeed the door of The Pit.
